Description
Programmatic Theme: Informatics Implementation
Abstract: Implementing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) within electronic health records (EHRs) as clinical decision support (CDS) is not standardized. To identify barriers, facilitators, and feasibility considerations when implementing CPGs as EHR-based CDS, we performed in-depth interviews with informatics specialist and emergency medicine physician dyads from seven healthcare systems. Themes derived from the interviews revealed opportunities to close gaps between CPG developers and implementation teams and strategies to address specific problems in data readiness.
Learning Objective: After participating in this session, the learner should be better able to:
1. Identify barriers, facilitators, and feasibility considerations when implementing CPGs as EHR-based CDS
2. Overcome potential issues in CPG-based CDS implementation by planning for predicted barriers early
