Programmatic Theme: Informatics Implementation

Abstract: Clinical Decision Support tools, such as clinical best practice alerts, enable healthcare providers with patient-specific recommendations to help improve the delivery of care. However, such alerts are regularly going under revision to keep up with new clinical and research findings, hence creating maintenance challenges for knowledge engineers. Our study aims at creating a structured representation of clinical alerts through natural language processing methods to help optimize classification, retrieval, update, and maintenance of these knowlesge objects.

Learning Objective: - Formulate a method for incorporating best practice alerts into Electronic Medical Record system.
- Demonstrate the feasibility of applying natural language processing methods in settings where structured, as well as coded, output is needed for integrating knowledde objects into Electronic Medical Record system.
